I guess you may be wondering why and how Becky Lou Memories came about.....well here's a bit about my life and how it all happened....
I grew up in the small rural village of Hockley in Essex in the UK and was one of four children. We were all creative and lucky enough to inherit the desire to design and create from our parents. My father was a cabinet maker specialising in marquetry and my mother made soft furnishings for the family home and designed and made all our clothes as children so I guess its no suprise we all dabble with arty stuff!
Although art was always very much in my daily life as I grew up I chose not to embark on this as a career choice and paved a very successful career in Reinsurance Broking.
I married in 1987 to Adrian and have two beautiful children Rachael who is now 19 and Philip who is 17 and of course I must not forget the family dog Millie, a very naughty but loving little Beagle with a will that just wont be broken!
My passion for craft developed whilst the children were very young and I had a break from work to raise them. I was introduced to card making as a hobby by a very dear friend, Michelle and my journey into my craft world had begun. My interest developed further and the desire to push paper crafting boundaries accelerated. The use of unusal techniques and discovering unconventional ways to use craft equipment became a key characteristic of my work.
My Grandmother, Rebecca Louisa Russell (Becky as she was known to her friends) was a major source of inspiration to me and induces many fond memories every time I start to craft. Having come from a generation that endured world wars, Becky always maintained the importance of receiving and giving a card for those special occassions. She felt that receiving a card was much more precious than any gift because it offered a chance to say how you really felt about the ones you loved and cared for. As the years went on she took great delight in perusing her collection of cards received for her special day, counting them with great pride and showing the words and beautiful images to her family and friends. They were truly special to her.
It wasn't until Beckys' death at the age of 94 the I decided to set up my own small business....making greeting cards by commission. My Grandmother left me a small amount of money in her will and with this kind gift Becky Lou Memories was born. A fitting tribute to a wonderful person.
My passion is still as strong as ever and I recently closed down my website in order to save money in these hard financial times and felt that a more interactive blog would be much more fun with lots more chatting !
So I am pleased you have found me and look forward to sharing ideas and inspiration and answering any crafting questions you have.
