Craft Club Challenge - 9th April 2012

Another Challenge for you to have a go at.

Paper Weaving

This challenge is not as difficult as it looks.  You will need:

  • x 2 contrasting papers (works better with paper but you can use thin card)
  • Masking Tape
  • Template
  • Non stick craft sheet or scrap paper to work on.
  • Scissors or Craft knife, Pencil & Ruler.
On the reverse of the paper trace the template (available at the craft club) and mark where the dots are with a craft knife or pricking tool and the notches at the bottom.  Cut the slits with a craft knife or scissors then cut the whole shape out. (cut one from each paper)
Top Tip: cut just beyond the pricked dots to allow a little extra space when weaving.
Attach a piece of double sided tape to the reverse of the shapes on the half circle end and place them on the craft sheet or scrap paper (accross each other) and start weaving.  Add small pieces of masking tape as you go to keep the weave tight.  As soon as you have finished carefully lift the woven piece off the craft mat or tear away from the scrap paper and turn over and place double sided tape over the back along the woven edges. turn again to the front remove the pices of masking tape and glue down the end pieces of the weave.   Add more double sided tape in the centre and at the top of the back of the heart and stick onto a backing sheet.  Carefully cut around the heart with decorative scissors.

I think these are really pretty as a card (write on the reverse) or to hange in the house as decorations  (especially the rose one!) I will attach scented lavender and vanilla bags to the back of these and hange them at the cottage.  Lovely!

Have a great day!
