Craft Club Challenge - 8th April 2013

Iris folding with pretty prints and beautiful shimmer papers

I love this technique to create inspiring card creations and its always great when someone asks that searching question "how do you do that!"  Well, at this weeks Craft Club I will be demonstrating  just how easy it is. I am going to show you step by step the principles of Iris Folding plus some additional add-ons to this skill.

You will need:
  • A base greeting card and reasonable weight card stock to overlay as a matt on the main card.
  • A selection of papers ...printed or shimmer..wrapping paper is also great for this technique.
  • A pencil, rubber, double sided tape and small pair of scissors or a craft knife.
  • Iris folding patterns which I have here for you to use.
  • Additional accessories to complete your craft project such as ribbon, gems, beads etc
The above card shows a great kimono design and works so well with bolder colours.  Note the red and grey small bead which has been crafted from the same paper used for the iris folding and also the black is actually gross grain ribbon which adds a fabric texture to the finished card.
I adore the colours on the above ice lolly card...they are so pretty and paper used for the iris folding has a subtle print...the use of ribbons soften the effect.  More samples to come....I have still to complete a car design with iris folding using old road maps and will post the photo hopefully on Wednesday and a beautiful dress design.

I picked up these wonderful templates from the Circle of Crafters templates and they are happy for them to be shared and used but please read the terms and conditions.

Here's one of my own designs....the template for this one is now for sale at the craft club.
The frame on the above card was created from the filigree stand die from Marianne which was die cut twice and cut in half and attached to the bottom corners then the scrolls cut off the other 2 and glued on the top two as they were slighltly too long. It gives a great soft edge to the stark white panel and the dies cut beautifully.

Hope you enjoy having a go and have a great crafty week.
