I have just had a great weekend with loads of beautiful walks by the river and in the woods and its true to say our surroundings should really inspire us. I guess we could say Autumn is with us now and the Colour pallet of the trees in Hockley woods have directed me to this weeks challenge.
For this week I would like to re-visit a fairly recent challenge (well one which we did earlier in the year) of "Bunting" as we are coming to a time when decorating the home with Autumn inspired wreaths and Halloween decorations are very popular. Of course it could be just a design idea for a card or scrapbook page.
The good news is we have a new set of "X-Cut" Bunting dies which are going into our die collection for Craft Club ladies to use each week and I guess the challenge for me is to show you some ideas but also some unconventional uses for these dies.
The criteria for the challenge this week is:
Create a craft project, either a card, scrapbook page or anything for your home or garden using the dies or create your own card triangular template (photocopy it and reduce the size each time by the same percentage to give you nesting shapes.) The Theme is Autumn and can include Autumn colours, Autumn leaves or berries, you can even include Halloween....literally anything you associate with
Autumn. This challenge is open for you to use anything you like.
Now for me to get going on my samples...here's one to be getting on with...I will be hanging these decorations for Halloween ....just adding spiders and mini pumkins when I get round to doing them.
....I hope you are ready for this one! I have just got this finished and I am in Halloween heaven! This "SpookY" Bunting project was so inexpensive to do and looks just fab....crafting for the cottage is such a pleasure but, of course, you can use these ideas and incorporate them onto cards etc.

I don't think these photos do this justice ( I think I have pressed something on the camera that seems to wash out the colours...I hate to say it but I think I am a bit of a techno-phobe...if its technology I break it!!! I hope the close ups give you more detail...
Our kitchen is where it all happens at Halloween....Spicy Pumpkin soup bubbling on the stove, a huge basket of goodies for the village children, who always dress up and make a real effort, ripe and glowing pumpkins carved and set to welcome all visitors by the kitchen french doors...hhhhmmmmmn lovely! (wake up, wake up Debbie! Oooops nearly went off into my fantasy world of love, peace, harmony and all things fun!)
Now for some detail. It's great to use the purpose made dies and accessories but sometimes we just don't have these things when we need them and this is where a bit of crafty flair comes into its own. I wanted an orange dot on black paper which I simply didn't have and with a flash of inspiration I remembered having some liquid chalk pens which where bright and vibrant and did the job beautifully (dots of orange acrylic would have given the same effect.)
The spider was created from black chenille pipe cleaners which have been hanging around for ages and the pumpkin was a simple hand drawn shape with the features cut with a craft knife and then shaded with pigment inks. You may notice the Memory box Christmas tree die which nestled in the bunting a treat and the Tim Holtz bird cage and bird die which was cut from grey board and tinted with black ink which gave it a rustic feel. Finally rafia bundles finished the look with acorns and mini pine cones glued on top with a hot glue gun... (You may notice the cob webs that drape across the bunting ...this was an accidental discovery when using the hot glue gun and the fine trails that are left as you glue the pieces in place...the perfect artificial cob web!)
I hope you like the bunting die and what I have done with it...I am still experimenting and am sure to come up with some other samples during the week and I will add them here:
This one will be demo'd at the Craft club this week.
Have a great day.
Wow! That looks brilliant xx
